The Cancer Garden of Hope on Boston City Hall Plaza
The steelwork for the Garden of Hope consists of eleven pieces.
The large corner piece was built from 2″x1/4″ flat stock steel and forms an 80 degree angle to match the flower bed. It is 6'6″ tall at the center and fans out to nearly 8' along both sides.
The remaining structures are all made from various sizes of rebar.
There are five flat panels, painted blue, approximately 5' tall by 8' long made from hand bent 5/8 (#5) rebar.
The Flame trellises are three dimensional, cylindrical, flowing shapes approximately 6' tall that bend toward the central piece. They are six sided, fabricated from 1/2″ (#4) rebar.
The two end pieces are also are also three dimensional trellises, tangerine shaped, 3.5' tall, nearly 4' at the widest point, built from 1/2″(#4) rebar.
The Garden of Hope is an ongoing work of The Conquer Cancer Coalition of Ma. The planting plan was developed by COG designers Ellen Forrester and Linda Herman. For more information on the garden and other Coalition and COG activities go to www.conquercancer.org and www.cogdesign.org
